In what has become an annual gesture of goodwill, the City of Concord Police Department gave a group of local students an early holiday treat this year, according to their social media post. On Monday, 24 pupils had the chance to roam through Concord Mills Mall, accompanied by their School Resource Officers, handpicking gifts from piles of clothes to the latest toys.
While it's not uncommon for law enforcement to engage in community service, this event stands out because the Concord, NC Police Department made it a point to involve students directly in a seasonal shopping spree—no doubt a highlight for the kids involved. The department celebrated the occasion on Facebook, saying, "We shopped, ate pizza, and even got our picture made with Santa!" It’s perhaps a subtle reminder that those who patrol the streets can also pave pathways for delight and community engagement.
Every detail exudes a sense of camaraderie and joy, from selecting footwear to grappling with the choice over the perfect teddy bear or basketball. "We look forward to this event every year as one of our favorite ways to connect with students and spread holiday cheer," the Concord Police detailed in their post.
