As the holiday season descends, City Hall kicks off its 'Season of Giving' donation drive, inviting the community to show their generosity. Residents can make their contributions to several charities focused on different needs, and all donations will directly benefit local families during the holidays. You can drop off your donations at City Hall, 11155 Robinson Drive, where collection bins are placed in the front lobby for your convenience.
The drive starts on November 24th and will run through December 15th, open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Among the essentials being collected are non-perishable foods such as canned goods and whole grains, new and unwrapped toys for children of all ages, winter coats, and various toiletries. Each category supports a partner charity with a focus on its specific needs. For those looking to help, you can find a full list of suggested items for donation on the City of Coon Rapids website.
ACBC Food Shelf specifically is looking for high-need items such as flour, oil, and baby food. Toys for Joy wants new, unwrapped toys, especially for children aged 12-18, including small electronics and gift cards. Alexandra House has put out the call for new or gently used winter coats and children’s boots. Lastly, Granny's Closet is in need of various household and personal care items, from men's razors to laundry detergent. Additional drop-off locations include Coon Rapids Ice Center, Bunker Hills Golf Club, and all Coon Rapids Fire Stations, where they're accepting toys and food.
It's important to note that each charity has specified the types of items they are in dire need of. These items not only make the holidays brighter for recipients but also support their everyday struggles with necessities often taken for granted. A list of high-priority items can be found on the provided link to the City's website. Remember, the act of giving is also an act of community building, stitch by stitch, reinforcing the fabric that holds us together.
