
Following a tenure that has spanned nearly two decades with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona (BBBSAZ), Debbie Castillo-Smith has been appointed as the organization's permanent CEO. Having taken on the role initially on an interim basis in April, her commitment to the organization's mission has culminated in its leadership confirming her position. According to ABC15, Castillo-Smith's previous roles within Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona encompassed recruiting and training volunteers, providing training for parents, guardians, and additional staff members, as well as directly working with mentor-mentee matches.
Castillo-Smith joined the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona in 2007 and has evidently been influential in shaping the organization's outreach, notably contributing through her firsthand mentoring experience with five girls across as many years. In statement obtained by the Business Journal, it's clear that her leadership is anticipated to continue the legacy and effectiveness of the nonprofit's program, which targets the development of children ages 6 to 18 by pairing them with impactful adult mentors.
