As Thanksgiving approaches, DeKalb County is updating its sanitation schedule to accommodate the holiday, ensuring residents know when to haul their trash bins to the curb. According to a recent announcement from the county, which can be found on the official DeKalb County website, the changes are specific to the week of Thanksgiving Day, with the intent to keep services running smoothly while observing the national holiday.
For those who like to plan ahead, the schedule is straightforward: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, Nov. 24 to 26, will not see any changes, with collections happening as normal; however, on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27, there will be no collection service to allow workers to enjoy the holiday. The county has arranged for those who would normally have their trash picked up on Thursday to receive service the following day, Friday, Nov. 28, making sure no trash is left lingering for too long, as detailed by the county's announcement.
Facilities are getting a break too; the Seminole Road Landfill and both the Central and North Transfer Stations are closing their gates on the holiday, but will promptly reopen on Friday, dusting off the inactivity of the holiday respite. Moreover, residential customers who miss the Thursday service will have their waste collected on Friday; this information directly corresponds to the official notification from DeKalb County’s Sanitation Division.
Residents seeking additional information are encouraged to contact the Sanitation Division’s Customer Care team. The call center and administration office will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday, with regular operations resuming Monday, Dec. 1. The division can be reached at 404-294-2900 or by email at [email protected]. Updates are also available on X at @DKalbSanitation.
