Early morning commuters in East Tennessee and parts of Southwest Virginia encountered dense fog today, reducing visibility to one quarter mile or less in some areas. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 9 AM EST, according to the National Weather Service.
Morning fog caused "Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog," and the National Weather Service advised drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and keep a safe distance. The rest of the week in Knoxville will have mostly clear skies, highs near 70°F by Wednesday, and lows in the mid-40s at night. On Friday, there is a 30% chance of showers in the afternoon, increasing to a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms at night.
The National Weather Service said travelers should "allow extra time to reach your destination." Fog will lift this morning, and no severe weather is expected. Rain and a chance of thunderstorms are possible later in the week. The weekend will have lower chances of precipitation, though slight showers may continue through Sunday.
