The City of Edmond's Public Works Department has once again demonstrated operational excellence by receiving American Public Works Association (APWA) accreditation for the fourth time. The accreditation confirms that Edmond's Public Works aligns with the management practices recommended by the APWA. According to a recent City of Edmond announcement, this recognition underscores the city's commitment to public service and the continuous improvement of its operations.
For agencies like Edmond’s, embarking on this rigorous process is no trivial matter; initiation begins with a self-assessment phase, followed by an official application. Upon identifying necessary improvements, the department works doggedly to align its practices with APWA standards. Then, a comprehensive site evaluation is requested to assess their compliance. APWA's Accreditation Council examines the site visit results before granting the coveted accreditation status. Edmond initially earned accreditation in 2013 and has maintained it through successive re-accreditations, showcasing an enduring pursuit of public service excellence.
Keith Stewart, the Director of Public Works for the City of Edmond, shared in his pride for the department's accomplishment. "I am honored to be a part of Edmond Public Works where I have the pleasure of working with a great team of public works professionals," Stewart noted, according to the City of Edmond. He went on to relate this achievement to the broader community, stating, "This accomplishment not only validates our team's commitment to excellence and continuous improvement, but it also demonstrates the benefits those efforts bring to this great community."
Edmond has received accreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA) for the fourth time, making it the second agency in Oklahoma to achieve this status after Norman. The accreditation recognizes the city’s adherence to established public works standards and practices.
