In a unanimous vote, the El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees has named Dr. Brian Lusk as its sole finalist for Superintendent. Board President Leah Hanany praised the decision, stating, "El Paso ISD’s Board of Trustees is proud to name Dr. Brian Lusk as our next Superintendent," according to El Paso ISD. "We look forward to working with Dr. Lusk as we move forward, and focus on what matters most, which is our students," Hanany added, acknowledging the Board's diligent collaborative efforts in the search.
Dr. Lusk, with a career spanning over thirty years in the Dallas Independent School District, climbs the ladder from a classroom teacher to Deputy Superintendent of Schools and Academics, overseeing 228 schools and an array of districtwide responsibilities. He holds an elementary education degree, a master's in educational administration, and a recent doctorate in educational leadership and policy from the University of Texas at Austin. Trustee Valerie Beals lauded the selection process, noting, "The teamwork, the long hours, and the careful, tedious steps we took all paid off," as per El Paso ISD.
The search for a new superintendent was structured around community involvement and the feedback of stakeholders. The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) facilitated this process, a move that earned the Board's gratitude for its transparency and inclusion of voices from students, staff, families, and community members alike.
