El Paso County witnessed a tense scene as a 64-year-old mother allegedly assaulted deputies during her daughter's arrest for domestic violence. According to KFOX-TV, the incident unfolded in the 8700 block of Kingsway Drive, Canutillo, where deputies were responding to a domestic assault call. The mother, identified as Marisela Valenzuela, is accused of jumping in and attacking deputies as they tried to arrest her daughter, Mayra Salinas, aged 32.
The confrontation occurred on Nov. 20, and following the altercation, both Salinas and Valenzuela were arrested and later released on a surety bond of $3,500. Salinas faces charges including assault causing bodily injury to a family member and resisting arrest, while Valenzuela was charged with assault of a peace officer and interfering with public duties. In a related news release by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Priscilla I. Contreras, detailed by the El Paso Times, Valenzuela reportedly hindered the deputies from securing her daughter in handcuffs during the incident.
In a separate but equally troubling case in Livingston Parish, authorities are dealing with a harrowing case of infanticide. A 14-year-old girl has been charged with first-degree murder after deputies found her newborn daughter dead with extensive neck injuries, as reported by CBS4Local. The teen initially sought treatment at Our Lady of the Lake in Walker, leading medical staff to alert authorities, which resulted in the grim discovery at the teen's home in Denham Springs.
