An elderly woman experienced a brutal encounter while riding a Broward County Transit bus on October 21. The 70-year-old, who had taken a seat in the bus's ADA section, found herself in an escalating conflict with another female passenger which led to her being repeatedly punched and left with visible bruising, according to WSVN.
Detectives from Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit have circulated video footage of the incident and are on the lookout for the assailant. As documented by the surveillance video, the aggressor bumped into the seated elder multiple times due to the bus' motion. An argument broke out after the victim requested space, which rapidly turned physical when the attacker pushed her body against the victim multiple times and struck her with a grocery bag. "The victim used her cane to defend herself and the attacker punched her multiple times in the head," according to statement obtained by WSVN.
Bystanders intervened, separating the two, as the situation unfolded inside the moving vehicle, based on details shared by Boca Post. The bus driver, upon noticing the altercation, stopped the bus and opened the doors near the 4100 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard, allowing the attacker and her associate to flee the scene.
In the aftermath, the victim, who suffered a bruise on her forehead, declined hospital transport, preferring to simply depart from the bus. The Broward Sheriff’s Office encourages those with any knowledge of the attacker or her accomplice to contact Detective Andres Lopez at 954-321-4915 or to utilize the SaferWatch app. Broward Crime Stoppers also accepts anonymous tips at 954-493-TIPS or online, with the potential for a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
