A curious incident unfolded in Detroit's west side when a frisky goat named Smokey escaped from its pen and roamed the neighborhood, startling residents and leading to an unforeseen rooftop refuge. A local man, Dae'lan Scott, found himself confronted by the loose goat, prompting him to improvise a retreat by leaping onto the roof of a car. Captured by a security camera, the footage showed Scott's alarmed reaction as the goat approached, an event detailed in a report by UPI.
Scott's brother, Jupiter Star, was witness to the scene, watching through a window as their mother, admittedly fearful of animals, brandished a knife to ostensibly protect her son. This family dynamic, in the wake of an escaped goat, added a layer of domestic drama to the otherwise pastoral disruption. According to an interview with FOX 2 Detroit, Star commented on the surreal situation, "You wake up out of your sleep at 7 a.m. not believing there is a goat outside."
The goat's owner, Robert Pizzimenti, who is also known as Dr. Bob and operates the nearby Psychedelic Healing Shack, quickly entered the chaos to retrieve his wandering goat. Despite the day's events, Pizzimenti advocates for the benefits these animals can bring to the community and finds himself now locked in a struggle against city regulations. He has been cited for keeping wild animals without a permit, but hopes for a change in perspective from officials. "If Detroiters were allowed to farm and garden the way many of us want to, we could have the most unique city on the planet!" Pizzimenti told WXYZ.
