A 55-year-old man from Fall River, Jim Jones, was killed last Thursday evening while using a crosswalk on Veterans Memorial Highway in Ronkonkoma, New York. The incident, in which he was struck by a vehicle, was reported by Fall River Reporter.

The crash happened around 7:11 p.m. as Jones was crossing the roadway. He was struck by a westbound 2013 Honda Civic. Suffolk County police told NBC10 Boston that the driver, 64-year-old Erin Archibald of Smithtown, New York, was uninjured. Jones was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle involved in the crash was impounded for a safety inspection, following standard procedure in serious incidents. A GoFundMe fundraiser described Jones as someone who “could light up a room, and everywhere he went, he left with a new friend,” according to Fall River Reporter.

Funeral arrangements for Jones have not yet been announced. Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives continue to investigate the fatal crash. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 631-854-8552. No charges have been announced at this time.
