A tragic motor vehicle collision resulted in a fatality in Far East El Paso County, as reported by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. The incident, which occurred yesterday, involved a Freightliner dump truck and a Chevrolet pickup truck. According to a social media post by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, Oscar Ugarte, the collision took place in the 2500 block of N. Ascencion St. at around 6:43 a.m.
Detailed in the Sheriff's office statement, the crash ensued after the northbound Freightliner lost control on wet pavement due to poor weather conditions. The truck subsequently careened into the oncoming southbound lane, initiating a head-on collision with the Chevrolet pickup. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital but later died of his injuries. The victim was identified as 34-year-old Benjamin Caballero De Anda from Horizon City, Texas.
The response to the accident was swift, with the Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic Investigators arriving on the scene to handle the probe.
