The manhunt for fugitive Ronald Pilkington came to a close on November 19th as local law enforcement, in coordination with U.S. Marshals, arrested him in Tipton County, according to Sheriff Shannon Beasley's social media post. Pilkington, who was wanted on warrants in both Tipton County and Southaven, Mississippi, was apprehended while hiding in an attic on Simmons Road in Drummonds.
It was on November 11th that the Southaven Police Department issued a Be-On-The-Lookout (BOLO) for Pilkington after he evaded them on foot, this flight resulting tragically in Southaven K9 Dagger sustaining severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle, the Tipton County deputies and detectives were able to identify Pilkington from the BOLO, recognizing him as a resident of Tipton County and also as one who was wanted on outstanding warrants at the time of his encounter in Southaven. The search for Pilkington was ongoing with the support of the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Memphis Safe Task Force.
In what seemed to be a concerted effort to bring Pilkington to justice, Sheriff Beasley expressed his sentiments on social media, "Pillkington's time on the run came to an end today in Tipton County," further illustrating the collaboration amongst law enforcement agencies. Moreover, Beasley harbored hopes that Pilkington might serve time in Tennessee long enough to allow the injured K9 Dagger a chance at recovery and possibly be present when Pilkington is taken to the Desoto County jail.
Updates on K9 Dagger's condition were shared, indicating he is back at home, though he faces a lengthy recovery journey, as law enforcement and the community alike are rooting for his speedy recovery. The community's attachment to the service animals that play a pivotal role in law enforcement efforts was evident as photos of Dagger were prioritized in social media updates, showcasing the care and concern for the K9 member of the force during this incident.
