Last Friday evening, nostalgia and soccer cleats came together at Coach Julius and Irene Lowenberg Eagles Stadium, where alumni from Canutillo High School's Lady Eagles soccer teams past reunited for their first-ever alumni match. The brainchild of the Class of 2016, this event rapidly snowballed into a significant reunion, with attendees spilling the expectations of its organizers, according to details posted on Canutillo Independent School District's website.
With head coach Jessica Woodruff's support extending all the way from the sidelines, a testament to her longstanding role, alumni from classes spanning nearly a decade and even a representative from the millennium class took to the turf, a broad range of years showed up to take part, they celebrated and reminiscences flowed as freely as the soccer balls during the game. High fives, shared smiles, and the familiar competitive yet friendly energy underscored the significance of the occasion, according to the Canutillo ISD's post.
The night offered much more than just a spree of soccer as former teammates reenacted the roles they once played, creating a present-tense collage of the school's sporting history. This was all about community, about the ties formed between people during years of practices, bus rides, game strategies, and triumphs, all under the banner of Lady Eagles, as explained on Canutillo ISD's official site.
The game ended with no scores that would alter any league standings, but the shared sense of Eagle pride filled the stadium with something far more enduring than a mere notch in the win column; as the event reaffirmed a potent sense of belonging among the generations it was clear this was a tie no one could break, the scores didn’t matter, the players just celebrated unity and reminisced, is how Canutillo ISD framed the moment.
