
The Georgia Department of Corrections has appointed Tamara Grier as Deputy Warden of Security at Washington State Prison, effective on Sunday. Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion, noting Grier’s more than 22 years of experience in the state’s correctional system.
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, Grier will supervise the security team and oversee the custody of 1,506 male inmates. She began her career in 2003 as a Correctional Officer at Hancock State Prison and advanced through roles including Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Unit Manager at Johnson State Prison.
Grier holds associate degrees in Early Childhood Education from Oconee Fall Line Technical College and Criminal Justice from Georgia Military College. She has completed departmental trainings including Basic Correctional Officer Training, Management I–III, Supervision I–III, Sergeant’s Academy, and Effective Communication.
As Deputy Warden of Security, Grier will manage daily operations and security at Washington State Prison.
