In a gesture of tribute to both military and educational service, Georgia's Senate Majority Leader Jason Anavitarte has announced plans for the Sgt Major John Barry Dean Memorial Intersection at the crossroads of State Route 92 and Cedarcrest Road in Paulding County. The dedication honors Sgt. Major Dean for nearly four decades of military service and more than six years with Paulding County Schools. According to a plan released by Senate Press, his courage in protecting the nation and his strong commitment to public education have been widely recognized. The proposal highlights Dean's contributions both as a servicemember and as an educator.
Reflecting on Sgt Major Dean's influence, Rep. Joseph Gullett expressed his reverence for the leader gone but not forgotten. “John Dean was the kind of leader whose impact endures long after he’s gone. This intersection stands as a simple but powerful reminder of his lifelong service to others,” Gullett conceded. Dean, who enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1968 and served as an avionics technician before engaging in local public service, passed at the age of 75, as reported by Senate Press.
Senator Anavitarte is pushing to create the Sgt. Major John Barry Dean Memorial Intersection to honor Dean’s decades of military service and his work on the Paulding County School Board, where he began serving in 2018.
