In a celebration of law enforcement efforts to curtail drug trafficking, the Tennessee Narcotic Officers Association recently hailed members of the Germantown Police Department and the West Tennessee Drug Task Force at their awards banquet in Chattanooga. Detective Brooks Gatlin, who has been with the GPD since May 2020 and served with the Memphis Police Department prior, was recognized for his role in several substantial pill seizures this year. According to an announcement from the Germantown Police Department, one of these efforts included the largest pill seizure in the state, executed at a major travel hub in Memphis.
The Germantown announcement further mentioned that Detective Gatlin felt "thankful and honored that the Police Department has entrusted me to serve with the West Tennessee Drug Task Force for the last year and a half." Despite the accolade, Gatlin cast a spotlight on his supervisor, Shannon Bowen, deputy director of the task force, calling Bowen an "incredible mentor." These successes in the drug interdiction field are seen as a collective triumph, credited to the synergy within the unit.
Indeed, it wasn't just individual glory handed out at the banquet; the West Tennessee Drug Task Force earned the Interdiction Unit of the Year Award, a nod to the collective effort in the regional battle against narcotics. This team, comprised of officers and regional partners, has been proactive in addressing the pervasive challenge of drug trafficking that affects communities across Tennessee. Such accolades serve as public acknowledgement of the unyielding pursuit that these officers take on—a fight against an often unseen enemy, but with very visible consequences.
In reflection of the recognition, the GPD expressed pride in its officers' dedication to the cause. "These recognitions highlight the ongoing efforts of our officers and regional partners in combating drug trafficking across Tennessee," cited the Germantown Police Department.
