As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, the city of Gloucester is preparing to host a large Revolutionary War reenactment in the summer of 2026. The Battle of Gloucester, an early naval clash often noted as helping lay the groundwork for what became the U.S. Navy, will be reenacted by more than 500 participants on June 20 and 21 at Stage Fort Park. More information is available on the Discover Gloucester website.

The reenactment aims to closely recreate the August 8, 1775, skirmish in which American militias pushed back a British naval raid led by Captain John Linzee. NBC Boston reports that Steve Cole, a member of the Lexington Minutemen and an event organizer, said the goal is to accurately represent Gloucester Village as it appeared on that day. Spectators will see demonstrations of military tactics as well as displays of everyday life in the 18th century.

Bill Rose, a member of the Gloucester Committee and the Lexington Minutemen, highlighted the difficulty of portraying the historic event, noting that an amphibious landing is one of the most challenging military maneuvers to recreate.

According to NBC Boston, committee member Brent “Ringo” Tarr noted that the event will include historical presentations and storytelling throughout the day, emphasizing its educational purpose. Parking will be available for approximately 600 to 800 vehicles, and full details on the schedule and logistics are available on the official event webpage.
