Goodyear's long-standing courtship with Trader Joe's is finally culminating in the grand opening of its very first store in the city, a significant addition to its downtown GSQ. As reported earlier by the City of Goodyear, on November 7, at 7:55 a.m., the beloved grocery chain will cut the ceremonial ribbon at 14770 W. McDowell Rd., officially unlocking its doors at 8 a.m. to a community that has fervently voiced its desire for the store since 2017.
The fervor for Trader Joe’s in Goodyear, well, it's a bit of a local legend, and the City of Goodyear's efforts to bring the store to town have bordered on a civic movement replete with specially dedicated days, petitions, and birthday bashes that would typically suit a long-established local icon not a supermarket, yet here we are. A cold December day in 2019 saw residents rallying with "We Want Trader Joe's" shirts and signs, a spirit further stoked when the city celebrated Trader Joe's 55th anniversary, streaming the love-laden affair heavily decked out in virtual candles and well-wishes to socialite-enthusiast residents.
Residents won't have to miss a moment of the inaugural festivities, with the city planning to live stream the grand opening directly to audiences via their Facebook, and YouTube channels, ensuring that everyone can be a part of the historic event, for this, if anything, is a clear testament to the power of community advocacy in shaping local commerce, Goodyear has set the stage and Trader Joe's is seemingly eager to play its part, as per the City of Goodyear.
