On Monday, Governor Kevin Stitt announced the addition of two new members to his team with the intent to more effectively collaborate with the Oklahoma Legislature and push forward the administration’s legislative agenda. In a recent press release, Derek Sparks and Jennifer Shoop were revealed to be the latest professionals joining the governor’s office.

Derek Sparks is set to bring his considerable knowledge in public policy and government relations to the table. Sparks, who has previously held roles as a staff member for U.S. Senator Tom Coburn and a Congressional staff member in Oklahoma’s 5th District, was praised by Stitt for his ability to quickly adapt and to meaningfully engage with the legislative process. "Derek and Jennifer bring a wealth of experience and trusted relationships to our office," Governor Stitt said in a statement. His recent tenure at the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber as the Director of Government Relations saw Sparks working to advocate for policies that benefit the business community.

Concurrently, Jennifer Shoop—with her vast background in public service—will also join the team. Shoop’s experience spans working with former Congressman J.C. Watts on Capitol Hill, former Governor Mary Fallin at the Oklahoma State Capitol, as well as under Governor Frank Keating and U.S. Senator Don Nickles.

The Governor emphasized that both Sparks and Shoop "have a wealth of experience and trusted relationships" which are expected to prove invaluable as Oklahoma endeavours to elevate its status. With their diverse professional backgrounds and longstanding involvement in policy-making and community service, the new team members are poised to contribute significantly to the Governor's vision for the state. As reported in the press release, Governor Stitt expressed his anticipation of their impact: "Their understanding of the legislative process and commitment to serving Oklahomans will be invaluable as we continue working to make Oklahoma top ten in everything we do."
