
A late-night fire on Holmes Street in Halifax resulted in the death of one man and two dogs, confirmed by Halifax Fire Chief Michael Witham, Police Chief Joao A. Chaves, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine, and Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz. Firefighters were dispatched shortly before 12:30 a.m. after a neighbor alerted authorities, according to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
When crews arrived, they encountered heavy flames and smoke and found the home’s sole occupant unresponsive inside. The victim was taken to a local hospital but did not survive, and officials said the house did not have smoke alarms, as reported by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
A man died in a house fire in Halifax that escalated to a second alarm before being contained in about 30 minutes. Chief Witham said, “On behalf of the Halifax Fire Department, I want to express our heartfelt condolences to the man’s family and loved ones,” and urged residents, “Please take a few minutes today to be sure you have them on every level of your home.” The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Halifax Fire and Police Departments, State Police Fire investigators, and State Police Detectives from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. Officials said the incident does not appear suspicious. Nearby fire departments and the Department of Fire Services’ Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit also assisted, as stated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
