Hamblen County Sheriff's Office deputies found themselves at the center of a fatal shooting incident in a quiet subdivision this past weekend. According to a social media post from the Hamblen County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call at 7:12 p.m. on Saturday led officers to the scene, where they found 39-year-old Tommy Nguyen with multiple gunshot wounds in his neighbor’s driveway.
Feeling the urgency, deputies, alongside emergency medical personnel, attempted life-saving maneuvers, but tragically, Nguyen was pronounced dead at the location. The alleged shooter, identified as Landon Huffman, 41, admitted his role in the shooting to the responding deputies. Landed in emergency response's hands without any incident, Huffman turned over two firearms that were in his possession.
The preliminary inquiry suggests a verbal conflict between Huffman and Nguyen escalated when Nguyen purportedly threatened Huffman and charged him with a stick. Huffman responded by firing his weapon multiple times, hitting Nguyen. Following the incident, Huffman willingly underwent a blood test and cooperated with investigators during an interview at the HCSO.
No charges have been filed against Huffman as the case remains under active investigation. "Our investigators are continuing to collect evidence and interview witnesses to determine the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident," said Hamblen County Sheriff Chad Mullins, a sentiment echoed by the community that remains shocked following the altercation. More information will be presented as the investigation progresses.
