A Hialeah landlord has been arrested after allegedly assaulting her tenant, who was holding her 11-month-old child during a dispute over a parking space. The incident occurred yesterday near East 35th Street, according to NBC Miami. Police said 53-year-old Maribel Escandell-Lopez attacked the tenant, identified as Iglesia Hernandez, after becoming highly intoxicated.
Authorities reported that Escandell-Lopez kicked Hernandez in the stomach while she was holding her baby. The child sustained an injury to the right elbow and was taken to Nicklaus Children's Urgent Care for treatment, according to Local 10 News. Other tenants stepped in to stop the altercation.
Responding officers described Escandell-Lopez as extremely intoxicated, noting slurred speech and an odor of alcohol, NBC Miami reported. After being read her Miranda rights in Spanish, she was taken into custody.
