Heads up, Hickory residents: the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday is bringing some closures that you'll want to keep in mind as you plot out your week. According to an announcement from the City of Hickory's official website, you can expect city offices to be shutting their doors next Thursday and Friday. These offices will buckle down for a long weekend and are set to reopen bright and early on Monday, Dec. 1, at 8:30 a.m.

The Solid Waste Division will continue its services without interruption, so your garbage, recycling, yard waste, and leaf collection remain on schedule. If you're a bookworm or need to return some borrowed time, take note: the Hickory Public Library, including both the Patrick Beaver Memorial and Ridgeview Branch libraries, will be wrapping things up early at 5 p.m. next Wednesday. They'll be taking a little break, too, closing on Thursday and Friday, but will be back to welcome you next Saturday, with open arms and books from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For those of you looking to use the city's recreation facilities during the break, the schedule has a few twists. The Highland Recreation Center, Ridgeview Recreation Center, and Brown Penn Recreation Center will all call it a day at 6 p.m. next Wednesday. While Highland will reopen on Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., poor Brown Penn is taking an extra day off and will stay closed on Friday. Ridgeview gets back in the game on Friday as well, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Westmont Senior Center is taking Thursday off, but unlike the others, Winkler Ceramics Studio will extend its break till Sunday, resuming normal hours on Monday, Dec. 1.

Don't worry, the parks are sticking to their guns and will be open all 365 days a year, including Thanksgiving, in case you need to walk off that extra slice of pie or just get some fresh air. Starting next Sunday, Highland Recreation Center will be opening on Sundays from 1-6 p.m. to keep you active during the winter months.
