
Hickory, North Carolina has capped off 2025 with a string of notable achievements across various sectors from community awards to infrastructure development. In April, the city was recognized for its hurricane relief contributions with the "Spirit of North Carolina" Award, an honor highlighting the community's exceptional response to Hurricane Helene. This recognition was announced at the Visit NC Tourism Conference Awards Luncheon earlier in the year, as reported on the city's official website.
Making strides in health and community engagement, Hickory expanded its running events by adding two new 5K races, creating the Hickory 5K Series. This initiative, by the Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department, aimed to showcase the city's trails and promote outdoor activities. Participants raced through the inaugural Easter Egg Scramble 5K and Aviation 5K, among others, contributing to a more vibrant and lively city atmosphere.
The promotion of arts and literacy saw a fresh breeze with the Hickory Public Library hosting the inaugural Hickory Literary Festival on April 12. According to the City of Hickory's year-end review, the event featured Lucky Diaz and offered a plethora of activities including writing workshops and literary-focused programs. In a similar vein, May saw the release of the fifth edition of Crafting Hickory Magazine, which is available digitally, sharing insights into the various transformative projects taking root in the community.
Infrastructure didn't lag behind, with the Hickory Regional Airport unveiling 12 new T-hangars and a significant 12,000-square-foot group hangar coupled with office space. These developments came as part of a broader push to cater the growing demand for hangar space and to enhance the airport's capacity for revenue generation and economic impact. Meanwhile, the Hickory Police Department (HPD) distinguished itself by attaining the North Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation (NCLEA) certificate in record time, becoming the 11th agency in the state to do so.
On the economic front, Trivium Corporate Center continued to drive growth with two major announcements in October. Corning Optical Communications LLC committed to acquire Lot 11 to expand manufacturing operations, planning to maintain a significant number of jobs with an attractive average salary, alongside substantial investments in the facility. Additionally, American Fuji Seal agreed to create new jobs and invest in their facilities, confirming the City of Hickory as a burgeoning hub for business development and economic activity.
