A high-speed chase culminating in Pompano Beach led to the arrest of six individuals after their vehicle crashed and they attempted to flee on foot. According to Local 10 News, the incident began in Davie, and spectators witnessed the suspects throwing cash from the car windows on Interstate 95 before their white SUV collided with a traffic light pole.
Witness Ernie Richardson described a chaotic scene to Local 10 News, saying, "I hear the 'woo, woo woo.' I turned around, I almost got hit by a patrol car," and after a brief pause, the unmanned white car appeared causing him to jump back again as he saw "money on the seats," a spectacle he claimed was akin to what is typically seen only in films.
After the crash, Davie Police and other agencies responded to the area near Northwest Third Street and Sixth Avenue, where three of the six suspects were soon apprehended, as noted by 7News. Onlookers and nearby residents witnessed the group fleeing through a park, scaling fences with efficiency reminiscent of trained soldiers, and some entered a nearby apartment complex, prompting a thorough search by heavily armed officers.
Residents from the apartment community described the tense situation to 7News with one anonymous individual recounting, "They were all over the building. We come out, I hear all of the police screams and then I see the K9 dogs, and we knew they were searching for someone," and another, who evidently resides on the second floor, told 7News she observed one of the fugitives ascended to her level and began running which she described as terrifying.
As the situation unfolded and law enforcement conducted their operation, videos circulated online showing officers navigating the complex while pursuing the suspects. The other half of the fugitive ensemble was believed to have been detained shortly thereafter, with multiple officers remaining at the scene to ensure the area was cleared and to potentially continue investigations.
