On Sunday, November 23, a high-speed chase occurred in Horizon that resulted in the arrest of a hit-and-run suspect. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office apprehended 20-year-old Angel Gallardo after he attempted to escape from deputies. As reported by KTSM, deputies were on patrol when they observed a dark Cadillac Escalade drive over the center median on the 200 block of S. Darrington Road. This vehicle matched the description of a hit-and-run suspect from a recent call.
When deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop, Gallardo disregarded their signals and proceeded to quickly flee. The Escalade later entered a desert area near Kentwood Drive and S. Darrington Road, where it collided with a dirt berm. In a video released by the Sheriff's Office and cited by KVIA, Gallardo can be heard repeatedly screaming "no, no, no" as deputies apprehended him after a foot pursuit into the desert.
Following the arrest, Gallardo has been charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, evading arrest or detention, and duty on striking an unattended vehicle. He now faces these charges and is being held on a $15,500 bond at the El Paso County Detention Facility. This information was confirmed by multiple local news outlets, including KFOX-TV.
