A tragic incident shook the community of Horizon City last Thursday morning, leading to the death of a local man after a head-on collision. The victim was identified as 34-year-old Benjamin Caballero De Anda, who was struck by a dump truck while driving his Chevrolet pickup, according to the El Paso Times.
The crash took place in the Montana Vista area, around 6:40 a.m. on the 2500 block of N. Ascencion Street. It was near East Montana Middle School, a grim reminder of the proximity of tragedy to everyday life. De Anda's vehicle was struck by a Freightliner dump truck that reportedly lost control on the wet roads, skidded across the median, and entered oncoming traffic, leading to the collision, as reported by KFOX-TV.
Following the accident, De Anda was promptly transported to a hospital; unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has stated that inclement weather and wet road conditions are considered significant factors contributing to the crash, as noted by both KTSM and El Paso Times.
