A barn fire in Attleboro, Massachusetts yesterday afternoon killed one horse and put several others at risk. NBC Boston reported the blaze occurred around 3:30 p.m. at 40 Cumberland Street. Narrow access roads delayed the Attleboro Fire Department, but crews contained the fire in about 20 minutes.
Firefighters rescued multiple horses before the fire fully consumed the barn. District Chief Michael Maitland told NBC Boston that coordinated actions helped prevent a larger tragedy. No humans were injured.
CBS News Boston noted the fire began around 4 p.m. near Route 123, close to the Rhode Island border. Crews used a skid steer loader to remove burning hay and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby barns and homes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
