A search is underway in Escondido after a hit-and-run driver left a boy believed to be about 5 years old seriously injured yesterday, according to police.
The collision happened shortly after 5 PM near East Washington Avenue and North Hickory Street, where officers found the child badly hurt. He was flown to a San Diego pediatric trauma center.
As NBC 7 San Diego reports, Escondido police said the boy was airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital after being discovered with serious injuries at the scene. Because witness accounts conflicted, officials were unable to immediately describe the vehicle or the driver as the investigation began.
Police Seek Witnesses
Investigators are banking on the public to help fill in the gaps. Escondido police are asking anyone with information or dash-cam video from the area around the time of the crash to contact the Investigations Bureau at 760-839-4717 or the anonymous tip line at 760-743-8477.
According to the Escondido Police Department's staff directory, those are the numbers investigators recommend using to reach detectives or leave a confidential tip.
