The Indiana State Police have recently showcased their new-look vehicles, including SUVs and patrol cars, with a design nodding to the past. According to FOX59, state police's latest Dodge Durangos sport a blue body with white-painted roofs, rekindling a color scheme from the '60s. Besides this visual homage, the vehicles are marked with the word "TROOPER" and include the familiar Indiana State Police logo.
Moreover, the new Durangos come equipped with stylish black-rimmed wheels and black deer guards. It seems an attempt to simultaneously embrace tradition and modernity has been made to reaffirm the identity of the force. "It's just all part of the same goal — make our roads safer," stated an Indiana State Police representative, as reported by the Indiana Capital Chronicle. This statement acknowledges the broader intent behind the updated fleet.
Alongside the Durangos, the Indiana State Police are also rolling out Ford Mustangs, although their use will be limited to fair-weather conditions. As reported by Indiana Capital Chronicle, these rear-wheel-drive Mustangs can hit 100 miles an hour in about four seconds, but will "likely be swapped out for all-wheel-drive Durangos on rough weather days in winter months 'to protect taxpayer money' and avoid unnecessary risk." This consideration reflects a strategic approach to resource allocation in response to weather challenges.
The unveiling of the new fleet coincided with graduating Indiana State Police cadets, who were among the first to be issued the blue and white Dodge Durango patrol vehicles. This initiative, documented by WTHR, serves to quickly integrate the new look into active service while providing fresh graduates with state-of-the-art equipment to perform their duties.
