
Buckeye has just appointed a new Deputy City Manager, and they didn't have to go far. According to a statement released by the City of Buckeye, Jared W. Askelson, who has been serving as the Finance Director in Goodyear, is stepping into the role after a national search.
Askelson isn't a new face in the Arizona municipal government. Having put in more than 25 years in the field, he's tackled various roles at the state and municipal levels. His resume touts responsibilities ranging from strategic planning and investment management to financial reporting and budget planning, not to mention his time updating city codes and handling utility billing.
In a quote from the Buckeye, AZ City Government announcement, Askelson expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I'm excited to be selected to be part of the Executive Team in Buckeye." He added, "This is a great opportunity to continue building on the city’s success with a team of incredible professionals dedicated to making Buckeye a great place live, work and raise a family."
Tracing back through his career in The Grand Canyon State, Askelson has left his mark with stints in key roles for the cities of Goodyear, Surprise, Mesa, and Casa Grande. His local expertise is expected to play a pivotal role in guiding Buckeye through its next phases of growth and economic development. With a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Arizona State University West under his belt, Askelson is geared up to begin his duties on November 10.
