
The Johnson City Police Department issued holiday shopping safety guidance, noting that “Criminals look for easy opportunities.” The department advises shoppers to secure valuables, carry only necessary items, park in well-lit areas, and avoid leaving vehicles running unattended, according to the City of Johnson City.
The Johnson City Police Department also released online shopping precautions, recommending the use of reputable websites and strong, unique passwords. Officials further cautioned the public about phishing emails and offers that appear unusually discounted, as reported by the City of Johnson City.
Chief Dougherty is reminding residents to stay alert during the holiday season, saying, "If you're ordering online, track your packages," and advising people to use official channels when donating to charities to avoid scams. The Johnson City Police Department plans to increase its presence to respond quickly to any issues, noting, "If something doesn't feel right, or if you see a crime taking place, call 911 immediately." Dougherty also said, "The JCPD is here to support residents and answer questions," as mentioned by the City of Johnson City.
