Bay Area Kesha fans were treated to an unexpected performance this week when the pop star dropped into a local Palo Alto bar and sang her chart-topping hit "Tik Tok." According to the SF Chronicle, Kesha's karaoke moment at the Patio bar was cut short when a security guard, failing to recognize the singer, directed her to step down from the booth where she was standing. The singer complied with a smile and continued to mingle with the crowd after the performance.
On her TikTok account, Kesha shared footage of the incident with a tongue-in-cheek reference to her own lyrics as she was ushered off the makeshift stage: "But the popo took ‘police shut us down' literally…" The video has garnered hundreds of thousands of views and numerous likes, making it a viral sensation. The co-owner of the Patio, Megan Kawkab, explained to the SF Chronicle that the security measure was due to concerns about potential damage to furniture. "Normally we have a bunch of college kids so we don’t let them jump around in the booths because they tear up my leather seats," Kawkab stated and added that Kesha was polite and lovely with everybody.
Despite the brief interruption, the "TiK ToK" singer stayed at the Patio, where she continued dancing and singing with patrons. Kesha's spontaneous visit coincided with a night traditionally popular with Bay Area bars, suggesting that local partygoers might anticipate further pop-star sightings, albeit without any official confirmations or advance notice. "When I said ‘don’t stop, make it pop’ I meant it," Kesha joked in the caption of her social media post, in the SF Chronicle.
As reported by SFGATE, there was no police involvement in the interruption of Kesha's performance at the sports bar; the situation involved only an oblivious security guard and a singer atop the bar furniture. The owner reiterated the singer's graciousness despite the mishap, "Kesha was awesome, no police were involved… there was never anything like that."
