As Knoxville shivers beneath a blanket of early snow, forecasts just released by the National Weather Service (NWS) offer a glint of relief amidst the frosty gusts. In an update poised to make the locals breathe a sigh of warmer anticipations, the NWS Knoxville predicts that Veterans Day will see sunny skies with temperatures steadily rising to a high near 45 degrees, with those trademark Southwestern winds blowing at 5 to 15 mph, and even the possibility of gusts reaching up to 20 mph.

Tonight's forecast is not to disappoint either; "Mostly clear, with a low around 37," as winds continue to sweep across the Southwest at around 10 mph. Predictions for the upcoming week suggest a continuation of mostly sunny skies, with temperatures climbing to the low 60s and a calming of winds, which is bound to provide a more than needed respite after recent weather events. The only hiccup might be waiting until Sunday, when there's a chance showers might once again make an appearance, with predictions standing at 30 percent during the day, and climbing to 40 percent through the night, as per the NWS Knoxville.

The recent snowfall, however, has not been without its drama, as per the latest Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service in Morristown, TN. Snow showers will increase in coverage and intensity this afternoon and evening, they reported, signaling accumulations of 6 to 9 inches in the highest peaks, and 1 to 3 inches of additional snowfall in other elevated areas, while the valley might expect less than an inch, but with localized higher amounts.

Adding to the icy challenges, the NWS cautions of breezy winds that will accompany the cold temperatures through the night, heralding wind chill values around or slightly below zero in the mountains. Despite this, the latest outlook promises an impending thaw: Dry conditions with warming temperatures are expected through the end of the week. It's a forecast that surely aims to gradually restore normalcy and the possibility of shelving the winter gear for a season's reprieve.
