The Hawaiʻi Police Department's Kona Community Policing Section and the Hawaiʻi Isle Police Activities League (HIPAL) are set to host a community cleanup and fun day at the end of December, partnering with Miss Orchid Isle Teen, Diamond Kawaauhau. Scheduled for December 28, residents will gather to spruce up Ke Ala o Keawe Road near the Hōnaunau Rodeo Arena, beginning with a check-in process starting bright and early at 8:00 a.m., extending into the morning.
Joining hands for the common good, volunteers can expect to get their hands dirty from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by light lunch and entertainment, as reported by the Hawai'i Police Department. Entertainment for the event, as maintained with a festive spirit, will feature local talents such as the 2025 HIPAL Youth Music Showcase winners, Nā Leo Kū, and the precocious young musical artist, London West, heralded for his acclaimed performances.
"This is more than just a cleanup," Officer Leonard Warren of the Kona Community Policing Section told the Hawai'i Police Department about the upcoming event. The officer emphasized the importance of community connection and celebration, noting, "It’s a chance for the community to come together, make a difference, and celebrate the spirit of aloha."
For locals interested in community service credits, this event not only offers a chance to tidy up the roads near Hōnaunau but also qualifies for meeting those requirements. Wrapped into the afternoon's festivities that will run until 3:00 p.m., the event is posed as an excellent opportunity for students and pageant participants alike to earn those needed hours. They can sign up through an online form provided by the department or reach out directly to Officer Leonard Warren for further details.
