The incident, which occurred around 10 p.m. on Glenn Robertson Street, resulted in the officer being injured and a suspect being taken into custody. FOX 5 Atlanta reports that Officer Carter was shot in the leg after he approached and knocked on a residence's door following reports of someone aggressively beating on it.
Upon the officer's knock, a single gunshot was discharged from within the house, hitting him in the leg. Officer Carter, who found safety after retreating, ordered the occupants to exit the dwelling. Two individuals emerged and were detained without any additional confrontation. Emergency crews provided onsite treatment before Officer Carter was transported to a hospital in Columbus. His injuries were said to be non-life-threatening.
The LaGrange Police Department took Laurance Williams into custody, booking him on charges including Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Giving False Statements, as stated in a WTVM report.
