Las Cruces police are in search of video evidence after a shooting on Bugatti Drive took a young man's life and wounded three teenagers. The incident occurred just before the stroke of midnight on Saturday, according to Las Cruces Police. The large gathering where the shooting happened was punctuated by gunfire, leading to the immediate dispatch of officers to the scene.
Upon arrival at the 2400 block of Bugatti Drive, officers discovered 21-year-old Lance Chavez with a fatal gunshot wound, having been pronounced dead at the scene. Also was a 19-year-old man was injured by gunfire, later transported to a local hospital for treatment. After the fact, two more victims, an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, sought care at Mountainview Regional Medical Center, bearing non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Detectives have pieced together that many at the party were capturing the shooting on their smartphones. These recordings are considered essential for the identification of suspects, as well as providing clarity on the sequence of events that led to the violence. In an ongoing effort to gather information, law enforcement officials stress the importance of submitting any such videos to aid the investigation, as per the Las Cruces Police.
