
A late-night drive in Logan Square turned deadly early Wednesday when a car jumped a curb and smashed into a raised barrier on West North Avenue, killing a 41-year-old woman and sending the driver to the hospital under police guard.
The crash unfolded just after 1 a.m. in the 3700 block of West North Avenue. Chicago police said that at about 1:07 a.m., a blue sedan tried to make a turn, jumped the curb, and hit a raised median. Witnesses told officers the car appeared to be speeding, according to ABC7 Chicago. The 41-year-old passenger was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where she later died, and the 43-year-old male driver was also hospitalized.
Investigation and custody
Area Five detectives have taken over the case as a potential criminal investigation. Police said the driver was taken into custody at the hospital and that charges are pending, FOX 32 Chicago reports. Officials have not yet said what specific charges they are considering.
