Community members have an opportunity to contribute to a noble cause this weekend as the Mozel Sanders Foundation gears up for its 6th Annual Step Up to the Plate Telethon. The event, which aims to provide 15,000 meals to those in need, will be broadcast tomorrow, Nov. 22, from 11 AM–1 PM on WHMB TV-40, according to the City of Lawrence's official announcement.
This year, Mayor Deb Whitfield has expressed her pride in backing this essential service tradition, highlighting the foundational value of community support in addressing hunger. For those interested in tuning into the telethon, the broadcast will be available on various platforms including Xfinity/Comcast on channels 09 and 1040, Spectrum/Bright House on channels 22 and 1022, and AT&T U-verse & Dish on channel 40. Viewers can also access the telecast over the air on channel 40.1.
Residents who wish to contribute to the Mozel Sanders Foundation's mission but are unable to watch the telethon can still offer their support. Donations can be made directly through the foundation’s website, ensuring that their efforts to combat hunger continue unabated throughout the year. This effort, bolstered by the willingness of public figures like Mayor Whitfield and supported by the wider community, stands as proof that collective action can indeed make a tangible difference in the lives of many.
