
Yesterday afternoon a collision at the intersection of Westland Boulevard NW and Martin Luther King Junior Drive NW claimed the life of a local cyclist. The Atlanta Police Department reports that the accident, involving a Honda Civic and the cyclist, occurred at approximately 2:26 p.m. Officers arriving at the scene found the 60-year-old male cyclist unresponsive, who was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The 24-year-old driver of the Honda Civic, who stayed at the scene following the crash, reported no significant injuries. Atlanta Police's preliminary investigation indicates that the cyclist was southbound on Westland Boulevard NW and allegedly ran the red light at the intersection, leading to the collision with the Honda Civic, which was heading westbound on Martin Luther King Junior Drive NW.
