Early Tuesday morning, a shocking development occurred at the Maryvale Estrella Mountain Precinct when a man arrived with the body of his deceased girlfriend in the bed of his truck. Phoenix police were alerted around 5 a.m. by the man who claimed his girlfriend was dead, a statement obtained by azfamily.com reported. Officers found the woman with "obvious signs of trauma" upon inspecting the vehicle outside the police station located near Desert West Park on Encanto Boulevard, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
The man, who has yet to be named, was taken into custody, during which he admitted to the murder and directed police to the original crime scene — a residence near 71st Avenue and Thomas Road. Despite the confession, police emphasized, the investigation is far from over, Phoenix police are still gathering evidence and conducting witness interviews. Neighbors in the area expressed their disbelief and concern, with one, Ramona Martinez, noting to azfamily.com that the situation is "scary."
Sgt. Brian Bower with the Phoenix Police Department, reflected on the strangeness of the events, telling FOX 10 Phoenix, "When you’re a patrol officer, you don’t expect somebody to come to you and just tell you that there’s an individual deceased in the back of the truck and that you’re responsible for, so I’m sure those officers were perplexed." As for the community, residents like Alexander Barry shared their sympathies, "My heart goes out to the family of the victim and I hope that they get the justice that they need," as reported by azfamily.com.
While the victim's identity remains undisclosed, there is confirmation that she suffered a gunshot wound. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and contribute to the ongoing investigation, as per azfamily.com.
