A serious vehicle collision on State Route 747 in Butler County has led to multiple charges against a man identified as Yoan Perez Ventula, which include felony aggravated vehicular assault and operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI). According to the Butler County Sheriff's Office, at around 5:37 a.m. last Thursday, November 20, deputies, together with Liberty Township Fire and Life Squad, attended to a head-on collision involving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and a 2023 Honda Civic, which resulted in serious injuries to the Civic's driver, a 28-year-old female.
The initial investigation revealed that the Hyundai had crossed into the opposite lane, causing the accident. Ventula has been tagged as an "illegal alien" by Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones, who also expressed a strong stance against intoxicated driving by undocumented immigrants, causing harm to “American citizens.” Indeed, the driver of the Hyundai showed signs of intoxication, with deputies finding an open container of alcohol and no valid driver's license. After providing a false name and numerous birthdates, Ventula was eventually identified and is now facing additional charges, including obstruction of justice, and no driver's license.
Providing further details, Sheriff Jones' office noted that the Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (S.T.A.R.T.) has assumed responsibility for the ongoing investigation. They urge anyone with additional information to come forward and assist by contacting Sgt. Steven Poff directly. The consequence of the accident saw Ventula placed in Butler County Jail, and a detainer by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) due to his immigration status.
