Yesterday, a quiet neighborhood in South Denton was disrupted by the sound of gunfire, leaving one man dead on the sidelines of Merlot Drive. At 4:52 a.m., Denton Police officers responded to a call in the 4600 block of Merlot Drive, where they discovered a man with a fatal gunshot wound lying on the sidewalk outside of a residence. Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving medics.
The Denton Police Department, as per the City of Denton, has identified a woman who lives at the house as the shooter. This woman is said to be cooperating with the ongoing investigation. It appears that the incident was a tragic confrontation between two individuals who were known to each other, with detectives quickly determining that there is no continuing threat to the community at large.
No arrests have been made at this time, and the circumstances of the shooting are still shrouded in the unfolding complexities of the investigation. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is tasked with the somber duty of conducting an autopsy and will release the victim’s identity after their next of kin have been properly notified.
