
A tragic incident occurred on the North Shore yesterday evening when a man was fatally struck by a commuter rail train in Manchester-by-the-Sea. According to Boston 25 News, police were dispatched to the train tracks between Summer Street and Magnolia Avenue around 10 p.m. following reports of a person hit by a train.
Upon their arrival, officials discovered that a man had indeed been struck and had sustained fatal injuries. As reported by Boston.com, the MBTA Transit Police stated that the man "intentionally trespassed" onto the tracks as an inbound Rockport train was nearing. Manchester-by-the-Sea police verified seeing a man on the tracks upon their arrival at the scene.
The incident has prompted an ongoing investigation by the MBTA Transit Police, and they are being assisted by the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. However, as of now, no further details have been provided to the public regarding the man’s identity or the circumstances that led to this unfortunate event. The accident caused a temporary disruption of the Rockport line service, which was substituted by shuttle buses for the remainder of Sunday night, according to Boston.com.
