Manhattan Community Mourns as Mother of Four Succumbs to Stabbing in Morningside Heights While Ex-Boyfriend Is Detained

A 47-year-old woman, identified as Carmen Lopez, succumbed to her injuries after a brutal stabbing in her apartment on West 129th Street in Manhattan's Morningside Heights, as reported by ABC7NY. The fatal incident unfolded in the early hours yesterday morning, around 4:30 a.m., and authorities are progressing in their investigation with charges against a suspect pending.

In an incident that shattered the serenity of an Upper Manhattan community, residents mourned the loss of a woman known for her quiet life and her dedication to her four young children, and the family had been living together with Lopez's mother who neighbors say mostly kept to herself but was often seen with her children and was always pleasant, according to what neighbor Ella Thomas told ABC7NY, "It hurts just to see you know, happened to a young girl I know of," while Basilio Gonzalez, who has known Lopez for about 20 years said, "She's a good woman, and she had four kids. It's bad."

The NYPD has detained a man, believed to be Lopez’s ex-boyfriend, who was taken into custody at the hospital for injuries suspected to have been sustained during the murder; detail that aligns with the understanding that the violence might stem from a domestic conflict, Dr. Iesha Sekou mentioned to ABC7NY, "This seems like something more passionate and possibly domestic violence, that hasn't been confirmed as that, but the person who did this, something is wrong with them in terms of mind and spirit."
