The teamwork of Mankato Police, Firefighters, and Snowplow Drivers has created an initiative to educate the city's third graders on winter weather safety. The program, according to a recent social media post by Mankato Police and Fire, has already reached half of the schools in the area.
The outreach has not only been educational but engaging, with kids getting hands-on experience with the tools of the trade. "We’ve met with about half of the schools — and it’s been a blast!" the officers and crew shared. Young minds had the opportunity to not only learn but also to touch and feel the equipment—police cars, fire trucks, and snowplows—bringing the lessons of safety to life. Each student walked away with their own winter weather kits, aiming to practically equip them for the season ahead.
Interactions between students and first responders have been immersive, giving them a peek into the everyday roles of these community heroes.
