In a significant drug bust, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has confirmed the seizure of over 400 kilograms of methamphetamine in Fulton County. According to a press release from the GBI, two Atlanta residents have been arrested on charges of trafficking methamphetamine after a collaborative investigation conducted by several law enforcement agencies.
Intelligence received last Thursday led to a successful raid at a residence on the 800 block of Custer Ave SE in Atlanta, where Juan Hernandez, 40, and Nelsonen Sorto, 36, were taken into custody. The operation brought together the GBI's West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, among others, such as the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the Atlanta Police Department, and the FBI. A search warrant executed at the property revealed the narcotics stowed away in a refrigerated truck parked outside the home, along with three firearms.
The confiscated drugs weighed approximately 419 kilograms, described as a substantial quantity with a significant street value. The presence of firearms at the site of the illicit narcotics further emphasizes the potential for violence often associated with drug trafficking operations. Hernandez and Sorto, implicated in this scheme, are currently being held at the Fulton County Jail, as detailed by the GBI.
