As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, residents and visitors of Maui should be aware of upcoming closures and service modifications affecting county offices, facilities, and services. According to an official announcement from the County of Maui, these changes will take place tomorrow in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday.
The list of closures is comprehensive, including all County of Maui offices, county pools, the Lahaina Resource Center, the Recovery Permit Center at the County of Maui Service Center, and the Kākoʻo Maui Relief & Aid Services Center. Notably, Hāna, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi landfills will also be nonoperational on Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, residential trash pickup and the Maui Bus will continue to run on their regular schedule, ensuring some semblance of normalcy amidst the holiday adjustments.
In contrast to the closures, there will be condensed holiday hours for certain services. The Central Maui Landfill and Maui EKO Compost, for example, are slated to open from 6 a.m. to noon and the Olowalu Recycling & Refuse Convenience Center from 8 a.m. to noon. These amended hours provide a window of opportunity for residents to manage their waste before partaking in their Thanksgiving festivities. Citizens looking to utilize any of the aforementioned services or offices should plan accordingly, as regular business hours will not resume until Friday.
