Miami-Dade County is gearing up to commence work on a new and improved pedestrian bridge in South Dade, an undertaking that is set to enhance local infrastructure and safety for residents. Set to break ground on Monday, November 17, the Snowden Pedestrian Bridge project is located over the C-100 Canal in Miami-Dade County Commission District 8 and carries the weighty expectation to better facilitate foot and bicycle traffic, as per the county's announcement.
Local officials, including Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and District 8 Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, along with Village of Palmetto Bay Mayor Karyn Cunningham, are slated to officially kick off the project, which will see a wider prefabricated pedestrian bridge along with new lighting, signage and pavement markings, sodding, and drainage improvements. The project is poised to not only seamlessly connect neighborhoods but also encourage healthier transportation options within the community.
According to a release published on the official Miami-Dade County website, the groundbreaking event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Old Cutler Rd. just north of SW 174th between Deering Point and Thalatta Estate in the Village of Palmetto Bay. Reporters planning to cover the event are advised to RSVP at [email protected], with interviews and photos available upon request.
In a time where urban development frequently caters to vehicular traffic, this initiative aims to stride forward by prioritizing pedestrian and cycling facilities. Once completed, the new Snowden Pedestrian Bridge is expected to improve accessibility, decrease congestion and elevate the public's overall commuting experience.
